CHARLES/TSARLYBOY (b.1991, Laguna)

an artist who works mainly in collage, installations, image, and object appropriation. His pieces explore themes surrounding Philippine basketball culture and its impact on the daily life of Filipinos. Charles uses his personal relationship with basketball to project experience, memories, and stories. His use of basketball as the central subject for his body of work presents a thoughtful and personal take on the Philippines’ favorite sport. Through decontextualization of the ordinary into the extraordinary, he is able to establish new categories of meaning that are often endearing and entertaining, while also providing social commentary.

He also has a background in news and media directing, shooting, and editing short documentaries for Rappler, Vice, and Channel News Asia.
